The recommendations of the European Union project Align – which support businesses, financial institutions and other stakeholders in developing standardised natural capital accounting practices, including a standardised approach to biodiversity measurement– are now opened for public consultation.
Are you a micro, small, medium or large business or a third party? The members of the EU Align consortium, in which Ecoacsa collaborates, value your opinion and look forward to hearing from you. Provide your feedback on the recommendations!
In a context of rapid biodiversity loss and growing awareness of the risks this poses to businesses, a complex landscape of metrics, tools and frameworks has been developed to measure and value the impacts and dependencies of business on nature, of which biodiversity is a part. There is an urgent need to provide an agreed set of principles and technical criteria setting out ‘what’ elements of biodiversity should be measured and valued and ‘how’ this should be done in different decision-making contexts. With this background, Align has emerged to develop a set of recommendations for a standard on biodiversity measurement and valuation for business.
The recommendations are the results of months of engagement with various stakeholders and groups such as the Taskforce for Nature Related Disclosures, Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, Science Based Targets Network, Global Reporting Initiative, TransparentandPartnership for Biodiversity Accounting Financials, run with the aim to exchange information, ideas and coordinate on key concepts. Align is working to ensure that the recommendations are relevant and fit-for-purpose for both businesses and financial institutions.
Now we also want to hear from you!
