29 Oct LIFE certification, seal of innovative leadership of companies that are committed to the new economy
The continuous challenge in the search for sustainability represents an increasingly relevant demand in the management of companies. A group of Brazilian companies committed to moving towards a new sustainable economy have opted for the LIFE Certification to highlight the important role that the business sector plays in conserving natural capital. The LIFE Methodology and Certification have been adapted to Europe by Ecoacsa, and the first pilots will begin with leading Spanish companies next November.
The Society for Wildlife Research and Environmental Education (SPVS) and the LIFE Institute has recently organized the online event “Companies leading the new economy”, with representatives from Sanepar, Posigraf, Itaipu Binacional Brasil, Itaipu Binacional Paraguay, Grupo Boticario, ABN AMRO, C-Pack and Gaia, Silva e Gaede Advogados Associados. During the session, managers and CEOs of participating companies showed examples of voluntary actions to conserve biodiversity and ecosystem services carried out by their corporations that have been recognized through the LIFE Certification. For his part, the executive director of Ecoacsa, David Álvarez, explained the process of adapting the LIFE Methodology and Certification to Europe and announced that the first pilots will begin in November in Spain.
The LIFE Methodology helps business and financial sector identify their impacts on biodiversity and design a strategic plan to reduce, mitigate and compensate them, including a specific approach to reduce impacts in the supply chain. The LIFE Certification is designed to allow third party assessment and disclosure of the actions carried out by companies to promote biodiversity.
During the session, business leaders highlighted the benefits that natural capital conservation actions represent for their corporations specially in a context characterized by increasingly competitive and demanding market with regard to the preservation of natural heritage. The LIFE Certification represents a seal of the innovative nature of responsible companies that develop concrete and measurable actions to conserve nature and mitigate the impacts that their activities caused on it.
