Online learning course on incorporating natural capital into company culture

DESCRIPTION

Especially after the unfortunate health crisis in which we are still embroiled, the evidence that the crisis of nature loss we face is also an economic and financial crisis – with short-term and large-scale effects – is clearer than ever.

This has led to a growing recognition of the need for the business sector, the main beneficiary of the resources and services provided by natural ecosystems, to be sufficiently aware of its relationship with nature and to contribute to its protection, maintenance and enhancement. To this end, it is crucial that companies better identify, measure, value and prioritise their impacts and dependencies on nature, i.e. that they integrate nature into their decision-making.

Carrying out this mission is not easy. It requires time, knowledge and specific resources (human and material) which, with the right theoretical and practical guidance, are feasible and achievable for any organisation.

The training and capacity building modules defined include concrete and approachable steps for each profile to follow on the natural capital path according to their starting point. The objective of this action is to improve participants’ knowledge of the natural capital approach and ecosystem services, with a special emphasis on the importance of recognising the value of biodiversity.

Social innovation action in the face of the challenges of incorporating natural capital into business culture

DESCRIPTION

With the aim of responding to regional and national challenges related to biodiversity from the perspective of the natural capital approach, different training actions will be carried out in the framework of this Social Innovation action to reinforce the competences of Nature-Incore students who have been trained in the natural capital approach and in the valuation of ecosystem services throughout the course Nature-Incore.

These training actions will be carried out with the participation of experts from different interest groups (companies, financial institutions, business and professional organisations, associations, NGOs, academia, public administration and other civil society organisations) that are working in this field. The aim is to offer students the opportunity to learn first-hand how companies and organisations from different sectors are working to incorporate aspects related to natural capital into their decision-making processes, what challenges they face, what skills or capacities they consider should be strengthened in their companies and organisations to face the challenges associated with integrating nature-related aspects into their structures, and how they work collaboratively in the framework of working groups, initiatives and other alliances in this field.

In addition, work will be done on analysing students’ competences on natural capital to understand where they stand and to identify possible areas for improvement in order to strengthen their knowledge and skills in this area. The aim is to help them become catalysts for the cultural change that comes with incorporating natural capital in decision-making in their respective companies and organisations.
