Webinar: Supporting global challenges from multi-dimensional perspective. The International Standard on Sustainable Territorial Management

The advancing threat of land degradation and associated biodiversity loss, combined with the effects of climate change, represents a risk to the security and stability of societies and economies. To build a more secure, sustainable, resilient and nature-positive future, we need to design and implement innovative approaches and practices that address the global challenges from a multi-dimensional perspective.

Sustainable territorial management equips us with the appropriate tools to respond to the most pressing environmental issues, while allowing us to build healthy, resilient and productive ecosystems by integrating biophysical, socio-cultural and economic needs and values.

With the aim at helping all private or public market actors with responsibilities in territorial management to deal efficiently with the most significant pressures they face in their search for sustainability (deforestation reduction, food security, pest and disease control, urban sustainability, among others), LIFE Institute has developed the International Standard on Sustainable Territorial Management, with the participation of ITAIPU Binacional and the Itaipu Technological Park Foundation.

On July 26 (16:00 pm CET), LIFE Institute and its European branch LIFE Europe, led by Ecoacsa, are organizing an international webinar for the presentation of the International Standard on Sustainable Territorial Management.

The standard is structured in principles, criteria and qualitative and cuantitative indicators on environmental, economic, social and cultural aspects so that local actors anywhere in the world can create regional, collective and convergent commitments to sustainability, and monitor results of their land sustainability performance over time.

It also enables management at territory and landscape level, and support public and private actors to achieve their SDGs by contributing to the maintenance and conservation of the services provided by nature in urban, rural, terrestrial and aquatic environments.

To facilitate decision-making from the perspective of an organization and at territory level, a software has been developed. It allows to map the strategic actors of the territory, as well as to assess the commitment to land sustainability of public and private actors and provide a diagnosis of their performance in this field.

Participants in the webinar will have the opportunity to know practical implementation examples from governments and businesses, as well as make known their views and experience by contributing to the discussion.

The webinar is addressed to public and private actors with responsibilities in the field of territorial management: governments, business and finance sectors, NGOs, academia and research bodies, third sector, civil society and general public interested in sustainable territorial management.
